Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF)

Parent Teacher Fellowship plays a unique role in the community of Asheville Christian Academy. This dedicated group of parents serves our staff, students, and parents in countless ways each year. 

WHo we are

The Parent Teacher Fellowship is you!  It is the group of all the parents or legal guardians of students enrolled at ACA, faculty members, administrators, staff members, and school board members of ACA. Within this larger membership, there is a smaller group of parents, serving as an executive board, who meet together four times during the school year. During these meetings we report on past and upcoming events, plan, brainstorm and evaluate how we can best provide support to our school community through activities, events, and fundraisers. These events bring our community together for fellowship and to nurture one another in Jesus Christ. Each executive board member of this smaller group serves the PTF by overseeing committee chairs helping to coordinate a specific event or activity. The PTF has many working committees, with opportunities to serve in a variety of ways, from one-time events to year-long commitments. There are areas to volunteer that are morning, daytime or evening hours, and areas that are weekly or monthly. Below are some of the ways you can become involved.

Fellowship Coffee Socials

PTF Coffee Socials take place 3-4 times a year to help foster relationships among ACA parents. Volunteers provide refreshments, set up and clean up, and assist with childcare.

Friends of the Art Room (Lower School)

Volunteers work closely with the lower school Art Teacher, assisting as needed. Tasks may include labeling and filing student art work, taking photos of artwork for the Artsonia website, hanging student artwork, and/or decorating the LS Christmas Tree with student ornaments in early December.

Friends of the Library

Volunteers assist the librarian with daily activities, including the check in/check out of books, re-shelving, and repairing books. Volunteers are also utilized during the week of the Fall Scholastic Book Fair, typically held the week before Homecoming. Volunteers help with set up and take down, sales, and decorating.

Grandparents Day (Lower School)

Volunteers welcome and register our special guests, direct guests to classrooms and help with set up and clean up.

Room Parents

Room Parents serve as the liaisons between teachers and other parents. The goal of the Room Parent is to promote unity and cohesiveness among families and faculty. Room parents are generally available to assist with and help organize a variety of classroom events and field trips. Room Parents also maintain classroom photo websites and organize supplies for classroom parties.

Moms in Prayer

Moms in Prayer is an international group that encourages moms to meet regularly to pray for the needs of their children and schools in order to make a worldwide impact for Christ. At ACA, Moms in Prayer meets together weekly in the Guidance Office Suite each Monday morning that school is in session to pray for our children, staff, administration and other school and family related needs. There is no need to RSVP - all moms and grandmothers are welcome.

Parent Strengthening Events

Volunteers help with greeting, ushering, providing and serving refreshments and assisting with other related tasks of these special, parenting-related events.

Open Houses

Volunteers lead school tours for prospective families, provide refreshments and assist with all Open House activities. Some training is required.

TLC (Tender Loving Care)

The TLC Committee is one of our busiest, but most rewarding committees. Volunteers provide “TLC” to teachers throughout the year, at holidays and during Teacher Appreciation Week in May. Some examples include: lunches and dinners for teachers during Teacher Conferences, pies at Thanksgiving, Christmas Hot Chocolate Bar, Valentine’s goodies, Teacher Appreciation Week treats.

The Spirit Store

Volunteers assist with the checking in and tagging of clothing for credit, stocking and sale of gently used and new, logoed items throughout the school year. The Spirit Store is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, 7:45-8:30am and Monday and Wednesday afternoons, 2:45-3:30pm. Volunteers assist with special sales in the fall and spring. Training is required and retail experience preferred.

Fundraising – Restaurant Nights, Box Tops, Ingles/Harris Teeter cards, etc.

Volunteers assist the Chair with tasks related to Box Top collection, copying and distribution of flyers, advertising restaurant Spirit Nights, and more.

Family Care

This Committee provides assistance and volunteers to help ACA families and staff in times of need and significant hardships. Such assistance may include, but is not limited to, meals and services through Care Calendar, transportation for children, school lunches, organized financial offerings, and notes and cards from classrooms.

Middle School/Upper School Events

This group helps coordinate decorations, food and refreshments for various events throughout the year, such as middle school retreats, 6th and 9th grade orientation, 8th grade stepping up, and upper school appreciation chapel.
